This page explains what happens to information when you browse PickTheTool, use a picker, watch an embedded video or contact us.
For privacy questions, email hello@pickthetool.com.
Browsing and using the pickers
You do not need an account to read our pages or use the current pickers. Both pickers calculate suggestions in your browser. They do not send your answers to us, save them for a later visit or pass them to an AI service.
That does not mean a visit leaves no technical records. The hosting service can process information such as your IP address, the time of a request, the page requested and browser information. Website and security services use technical records to deliver pages, investigate problems and help protect the site.
Analytics and cookie choices
We use Google Analytics to understand how people find PickTheTool and which pages and outbound links they use. This helps us decide what to improve. We do not include picker answers in analytics events.
Optional analytics cookies stay off unless you allow them. You can change your choice through Cookie choices in the website footer. Rejecting analytics cookies does not prevent you from reading the site or using the pickers.
Google’s measurement tag loads before you make a choice. When analytics storage is denied, Google may still receive limited cookieless measurement signals. Rejecting analytics cookies therefore does not mean that no information is sent to Google.
The current Google Analytics settings retain user-level and event-level data for 14 months, without resetting that period when a user returns. This setting does not describe the lifetime of every cookie or every kind of report. The settings we checked have Google Signals, detailed location and device collection, and advertising personalisation switched off.
Preference cookies remember your cookie choices. The main consent system is set to remember them for 365 days; a separate WordPress consent setting uses 30 days. These preference cookies are separate from optional analytics cookies.
Embedded YouTube videos
Some pages include YouTube videos through the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com player. Videos do not autoplay; you choose whether to start playback.
The player can contact Google when it loads, before you press Play. The analytics cookie choice does not block this player. Privacy-enhanced mode does not mean that Google processes no information. See Google’s privacy policy for information about its services.
Links to providers and other platforms
Following a tool, affiliate or social-platform link takes you to another service. That service handles information under its own privacy and cookie policies.
Some provider links may earn PickTheTool a commission. Affiliate services may use referral information to attribute a sign-up or purchase. Review the destination’s policy before sharing information or buying a service.
Contacting us by email
If you email us, your address, message and any information you include are processed to receive and respond to your enquiry. The project mailbox uses Hostinger’s email service.
Please include only what is needed to explain your question. Do not send passwords, authentication codes or sensitive documents.
Hosting, storage and backups
Hostinger provides the website hosting. The web server is in Massachusetts, USA, with hosting backups in Boston, USA. Website hosting and email are separate services; these locations apply to the website and its hosting backups.
The hosting service makes weekly website and database backups. Separate manual website backups also exist and do not necessarily follow the hosting service’s rotation. Backup copies are separate from the live website and may remain after information is removed from it.
For information about the providers’ processing and transfer arrangements, see Google’s international data-transfer frameworks and Hostinger’s data processing agreement.
Privacy questions and requests
Depending on the law and the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, or receive certain information in a portable form. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You may also complain to the relevant data protection authority.
Send privacy questions or requests to hello@pickthetool.com. Explain which information or activity your request concerns; do not send identity documents with your first message.
